I found this to be very helpful as a teacher of qi gong and taijiquan. The principles are easy to apply. There is no need to change the substance of one's subject material as the principles are applicable to whatever it is you are teaching - and are effective. I also add handout materials in my classes to cover what is to be taught and follow-up with e-mail 1-2 days after chass summarizing what has been covered and the key points they need to keep in mind. It's going the extra mile but it helps in the learning process...

Teaching Tai Chi Effectively edition by Paul Lam Maureen Miller Reference eBooks Reviews

An unusually detailed and wonderfully written guide which shares years of experience and incorporates feedback from teachers around the world. Excellent!
Dr. Lam provides a good way to teach tai chi or any discipline that requires the student to be able to duplicate movements on their own. I've been teaching tai chi for almost 19 years, and I've found the 3 step method is very powerful watch me, follow me, and I'll watch you. Combined with implementing his recommendation on how to use positive reinforcement it has helped my students learn the forms I teach, and it has made me a better teacher. I highly recommend this book.
This has to be one of the best books on, not only teaching tai chi, but teaching anything that I've ever read. It is packed with wonderful tips, insight and thorough research. Dr. Lam is a naturally gifted teacher and, in this book, manages to convey his experience and methods in an entertaining and informative manner. If you teach tai chi you must read this book.
For students and teachers alike this is an excellent book to read. Everything you need to know about teaching tai chi and what makes a good teacher is in this book. I have a Master of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Education degree in Adult Education and Distance Learning, and I can testify that Dr. Paul Lam has an excellent understanding of people and pedagogical theories. Currently I am not a tai chi teacher but if I decide to become one in the future, I am confident that I have the best tai chi handbook to work with.
This book, written by Dr. Paul Lam, is a treasure for those desiring to teach his Tai Chi for Health programs. Dr. Lam clearly explains all that is involved in a person becoming a Tai Chi instructor. I gave this book to my daughter, who recently became certified to become an instructor. I refer to this book often, in preparation for teaching my classes. Lois Bascom
As a Tai Chi teacher I found this book to be of great help. Dr. Lam explains thing in a clear manner. I have referred back to the book many times. Especially the section on Stepwise teaching method Watch me, Follow me, Show me. I use this in every form I teach.
The educational philosophy in this book is very sound. These are principles that all teachers have been taught to follow. The material is presented in a way that's easy to follow in preparation to lead a class in Tai chi. I like it very much.
